If your child gets on your nerves or gets into trouble constantly and you find your self at your wits end...stop. Take some time to read this book or do what I did and have Alexa read it to you.When I first heard Alexa reading the book I could feel my blood pressure starting to rise. She's just making excuses for bad behavior I told myself, but I kept listening though and it started to make sense. By the time I finished the book I was crying. I was so ashamed of myself and how I treated my kids when they didn't behave how I thought they should or do things exactly like I wanted.My kids are only five and seven then their mother and I just divorced a year ago. I knew that I was angry about the divorce, but until I read this book I didn't realize that their behavior was stemming from their anger at the divorce too and not having any control.Both my children are strong-willed but in different ways. I feel like this book is giving me multiple ways of adapting when they're strong will conflicts with my black and white nature.I want to nurture my children, not break their will. Teach them positive ways of using they're strong will such that they can succeed in the world. I'm sorry, but I cannot leave a positive review for this book. I really dont get the hype for it. A lot of things bother me about this book and the way it was written. First of all, the author tries to describe herself as a strong willed child, but she says she never disobeyed her parents or acted out, that she was quiet and compliant, but if someone told her to do something "or else", that she would choose "else". Ok, give me a friggin break, that does not make you a strong willed child, so just stop. She uses that example multiple times throughout the book to try to paint herself as a SWC, seemingly so she can identify with how they feel, and describe their reasons for acting the way they do with some kind of authority.Another thing that bothered me was that this book was trying to cover way too much ground. She talks about what to do if your child doesn't want to go to church, do their homework, how to help them choose a career, how to make it up to your grown child with whom you destroyed your relationship with when they were a child, what to do if your SWC is breaking up your marriage....... a lot of "stuff", but very little actionable advice for how to actually deal with a toddler who wont let me get him dressed or buckle their carseat without a complete meltdown. I really couldn't care less about 95% of what was in this book.Disappointed this book wasnt helpful for me at all. I guess the search continues...
